Experience High Country Picnic racing at its best. At the unique Hinnomunjie Racecourse, on the Omeo High Plains, high in the Australian Alps, with the Bowen Mountain Range 'The Sisters' as a magical backdrop. Held on Saturday of the Labour Day weekend in March, the Hinnomunjie Picnic Races is an event not to be missed.

The Omeo District Race Club (ODRC) was established in 1876 by a group of enthusiastic locals with a love for thoroughbred racing, spending many hours training their winning steeds on the Hinnomunjie track or nearby Lake Omeo (in the Summer months!).

The Hinnomunjie Races are organised by passionate community volunteers, and friends who travel from afar, donating their time and services to make the day festivities one to truly remember.

Fashions on the Field are a feature on the day including Lady of the Day, Mr Dapper, Teenagers, Junior Race Goer’s, Tiny Tots and little Filly and Colt.

There are plenty of FREE activities to keep the kids happy, including a jumping castle, magician, clown, colouring competitions, foot races, face painting and other surprises on the day.  Loads of activities for the young and old, including our infamous Hobby Horse and Paper Plane races.

There is plenty of fine food, wine and local produce to sample and enjoy during the day or to take home to savour. Local photography, paintings and history of our historic are also feature.

Don’t be fooled by the laidback atmosphere, each of the 6 Trophy Races are hotly contested and provides all the thrills of a day at the races. Melbourne races are also televised during the day and Bookies are trackside to take your bets.

A great day out for all the family at this truly Australian High Country location, where old friends, visitors and local's meet, and new love blossoms. Head to the Hinnomunjie Races Labour Day Long Weekend, you won’t be disappointed!!

The Hinnomunjie Races heads the start of the High Country Calf Sales, on Tuesday in Benambra, Omeo and Ensay which attracts people from all parts of Australia.
