The Omeo District Race Clubs ‘Hinnomunjie Races’ are held annually on Saturday of the Labour Day weekend at the Hinnomunjie Race track.
The first Melbourne Race starts at approximately 12pm, with the first local race commencing at approximately 1.00pm

 

Admission

Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for teenagers, and  kids under 12 are free.
Race guides are available at the gate for $5.00.  No only is the race guide essential but  provides allot of great information about the race day, sponsors and local businesses.

 

Race Program

The Hinnomunjie Races feature 6 trophy races and Melbourne Races are televised. Bookies will be on track to take your bets.
A full program is contained in the race guide available on the day.  Below are the scheduled races, times to be confirmed

RACE 1 – WJ Cook - Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

  • ACTIVITY - Remembering Past President, Graham (Rusty) Connley

RACE 2 – Alpine Airwork & Omeo Rural & Hardware Supplies - Open Trophy Handicap 1200 metres

  • ACTIVITY – Fashions on the field (Filly, Colt, Miss & Mr Race Goer and Teenagers)– the youngest first!

RACE 3 – Ryans Asphalting & Mornington Garden Supplies - Trophy (3) Handicap 1200 metres

  • ACTIVITY – Fashions on the field – Lady of the Day & Mr Dapper

RACE 4 – The Benambra Hotel “ Brian Delaney” Hinnomunjie Cup- 2000 metres

  • ACTIVITY – Ultra-light Foot races, Bairnsdale Horse Centre Hobby Horse Race and Toyworld Bairnsdale Paper Planes

RACE 5 – High Country Helicopters & OCB Logging Mile - 1600 metres

  • ACTIVITY – Safeway Lolly scramble & Presentations, Races 1-4

RACE 6 – The Doc Paterson - Trophy Race (1) 1600 metres

  • ACTIVITY – FINAL PRESENTATIONS & Life Memberships Race Program

Bus leaves for Benambra and Omeo at approx 5.15pm
Dinner/Music at the Benambra Hotel – “Underdog” playing from 9pm (call 5159 9214)
Bus back to Omeo at the end of the night (further info contact Rod 0428 591 377)

 

Food

Tastes of the High Country
This year the Hinnomunjie Races will be focusing on great local food and wine.  Promoting High Country Meats, Gourmet Award Winning Sausages, Homemade Cakes, Scones, Jams, Preserves, Homemade Pies, and fresh Sandwiches and Rolls. …washing it all down with great local wines, champagne & boutique beers.  The Benambra Store will be catering this year, with a percentage of the funds made on the day going towards developing an activity hub for the youth in the town, so please buy plenty and support this great project.

Local produce and products
will tantalize & impress..take a piece of the High Country home with you! Soaps, Wool, Honey, Jams, Preserves, Olive Oil, Photos, and Paintings (if you would like to participate, please contact the secretary).

 

Entertainment

Family Fun
As always the Hinnomunjie Races is a fun family day, so there will be plenty for the kids to do. Leon the Magician, balloon sculpture, colorful face painting, jumping castle, snow cones, fairy floss, coloring competition, foot races, Hinnomunjie hobby horse and races, and try your hand at our paper plane race!

Live Music
 ‘Yesteryear” will be playing at the Benambra Hotel from 8pm  and again on Sunday from 2pm (they were fantastic last year). Good pub meals will be available, call the pub for further details 03 5159 9214.

 

Getting There

No need to drive let Rod do that for you.  
A shuttle Bus will pick-up from the Hilltop Hotel Omeo at 11.00am, Benambra Hotel at 11.30am and depart the race course after the last Melbourne Race (approx 5.15pm) returning to Omeo and Benambra.

A bus service will also run from Omeo to Benambra early evening, so you can freshen up and come back to the Benambra Hotel for a great night out.  Call O’Connells Bus Services on
